Rails and Ties

I fell in love with Kevin Bacon again.

I just watched "Rails and Ties," a little known film starring Kevin Bacon and Marcia Gay Harden and directed by Alison Eastwood (Clint's daughter).

Kevin was amazing... I really think he is an amazing actor!!!

The story seems simple and unrealistic... but Kevin Bacon was outstanding! His performance was spot-on!!!

Baby Blues

Wanda: When Zoe was a baby we spoon-fed her every meal.
Darryl: Yep.

Wanda: With Hammie, we monitored every bite, but we let him feed himself.
Darryl: uh-huh.

Wanda: And now with Wren, I just toss tiny bits of food on her tray and let her do the rest.

Darryl: So are you afraid were not giving the third baby enough attention?
Wanda: No. I think we wasted a lot of effort on the first two.

Ticche and Bea T-Shirt Quilts

It seems every activity that my kids do comes with a t-shirt. Every race, every tournament, every season, etc. These are sentimental treasures, but seriously, how many t-shirts can any given person have?

I have started a box for each of my kids for these special t-shirts. My dream is to make a quilt, or have a quilt made for each kid with these t-shirts. My cousin Kerry has made one, and recently I saw my friend Heidi's quilt that she made for her husband. I love the idea.

My sewing skills are... well, not really skills. So, I am inclined to have these quilts made for my kids by a professional. Click here for an option that I recently found. Seems like a good deal to me. The company, Ticche and Bea, have lots of fun kits. Take a look around their site!!!

Edgar Allan Poe

"There is an eloquence in true enthusiasm."
Edgar Allan Poe
I think Poe was a nut! But, an eloquent nut. A lot of his personal opinions are just plain weird to me, but I do love the creepiness of his stories!!
And, I like commerative stamps. I'll be getting me a sheet of these stamps!

The Winner is...

First... let me apologize for not posting the winner earlier.

And second... it always surprises me when Randomgenerator randomly selects #1. I don't know why, but it feels weird.

But, having said that... I'm excited for Nancy (comment #1) who is the winner of the Life Picture Puzzle Book. I'm sure you, and/or your mom, will love it!

Congratulations!!

eos Shave Cream

This shaving cream claims to be able to used wet or dry... that is what first intrigued me. It is a true cream, not a soapy foam that eventually dries out your skin. I love it!!

The instructions say: Apply a thin layer. Shave. Touch. Smile.

About $5. Look at CVS Pharmacy and Target for this!

Bouchon Bakery Donuts

"Leave it to Super-Chef Thomas Keller to create one of the most rave-worthy doughnuts
on the planet. His Boston Cream doughnut is a plus-sized hunk of fried dough, topped with chocolate and filled with rich cream. The Rice Krispy-like morsels sprinkled on top
add a bit of crackle and fun to the pastry." Forbes Traveler

These yummy doughnuts are available at Bouchon Bakery... located in the Venetian Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Picture Puzzle Book - Current Giveaway

On October 22, 2008, I wrote about a fun puzzle book by LIFE Magazine, called Picture Puzzle. Each puzzle consists of two seemingly identical photographs. However, one of the photographs has some subtle changes that you are challenged to find! Can you spot the differences?

Leave a comment to this post, by midnight Tuesday, January 13, to enter a drawing for a free copy of the first book of published puzzles.

It is fun and a great activity for the entire family! We love these books at our house. Each puzzle lists a 'time to beat' based on the difficulty of the puzzle and the number of changes in the puzzle. We love to try to beat the time and to see who can find all the changes the quickest.

Find it On-Line

I found this funny little story in the September 2008 Reader's Digest. It was part of an article called "Our 50 Funniest (True!) Stories." It was a story submitted by reader Catherine Burns. Enjoy!

My 50-something friend Nancy and I decided to introduce her mother to the magic of the Internet. Our first move was to access the popular Ask Jeeves site, and we told her it could answer any question she had. Nancy's mother was very skeptical until Nancy said, "It's true, Mom. Think of something to ask it."
As I sat with my fingers poised over the keyboard, Nancy's mother thought for a minute, then responded, "How is Aunt Helen feeling?"

Happy New Year!

A happy New Year! Grant that I
May bring no tear to any eye
When this New Year in time shall end
Let it be said I've played the friend,
Have lived and loved and labored here,
And made of it a happy year.
